Surrounded by Lake Superior, the Munising Area has designated beaches as well as roadside parks. You will notice that many people simply pull off the road and pick their own private beach for a quick dip in the pristine waters.
The Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore has a number of pristine beaches for you, your family and friends to enjoy.
Chapel Beach
Named by early explorers as La Chapelle, this formation is one of the many found throughout the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. Located approx. 15 miles east of Munising, off H58 about fives miles north to the end of Chapel Road. There is about a two mile hike from the parking lot to Lake Superior.
Sand Point Beach
This gem of a beach is a very popular spot for tourists and residents alike and is a great place to watch the sunsets. Located at the end of the Sand Point Road, just four miles northeast of Munising. The Weather Channel has named Sand Point Beach within Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore as one of the “Top Five Summer Beaches in America”.
AuTrain Beach
AuTrain Beach is located about 8 miles west of Munising at the yellow flashing light in AuTrain. It is a popular roadside beach with AuTrain River running into it. During the summer months, the river warms up much faster than icy Lake Superior and you will see many people swimming and floating the river.

Twelvemile Beach
Twelvemile Beach is very secluded and is located just after Spray Falls. Located 16 miles west of Grand Marias, on CR H-58.
Miner’s Beach
Visitors are delighted with this one mile long picturesque beach, located six miles east of Munising (on H58), then travel six miles north on Miner’s Castle Road.
